Exam Access Arrangements

Schools and colleges must make reasonable adjustments for pupils with special educational needs, disabilities, or temporary injuries, both in the classroom and in exams. These adjustments, known as Exam Access Arrangements (EAAs), allow pupils to demonstrate their knowledge and skills without being disadvantaged. EAAs do not change the demands of the assessment, but they do make it possible for pupils to access the assessment in a way that is fair and equitable.

Exam Access Arrangements may be tailored to meet the individual needs of the pupil, and may include provisions such as:

• Extra time

• Reader

• Computer reader

• Scribe

• Word processor

• Supervised rest breaks

Assessment

A scheduled appointment is made to visit your school or college to undertake pupil assessments for access arrangements.  A full day includes up to 6 hours of assessments, manual completion of assessment forms, and electronic completion of the relevant section of JCQ Form 8.

Here are some of the benefits:

• It provides a comprehensive assessment of the pupil's needs, which can help to ensure that they receive the right support in exams.

• It can save time and resources for schools and colleges, as they do not have to carry out the assessments themselves.

• It can provide peace of mind for parents and carers, as they can be confident that their child is receiving the best possible support.

The SENDCo, or Learning Support Manager in a college, must complete Part 1 of Form 8 before the pupil is assessed.  The assessment is then conducted considering the information provided.  This should paint a picture of the pupil’s needs and background.  Test results must be supported by evidence that the requested access arrangements reflect the support that the pupil normally receives.  This is commonly referred to as the 'normal way of working.'

Full day fees start from £250.00.  This includes travel expenses for a school or college within a 25-mile radius of Horsham, West Sussex.  Thereafter, travelling expenses apply at HMRC rates.

Each assessment is completed on a one-to-one basis and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete.
